Eric Escoffier, la fureur de vivre

The "Escoffier style" is a unique cocktail of grace, speed and nerve. Minimal equipment, no tiresome need for recognition, no stress but instead betting it all on the very limits of what is thought possible along with a established daredevil reputation. Being independent, fast-paced, improvising, these were the rules he lived by.
It is Eric Escoffier himself, presented through archive imagery, who recounts a life which he preferred "to live briefly like a lion, instead of for 150 or 200 years like a sheep. From 1985 onwards, everything he did was a success: sequences, delta, firsts, climbing, race driving… As he liked to say: "Nothing is impossible". He seemed indestructible.
However, on 11 September 1987, a car accident left him hemiplegic, but not to be defeated, he soon set numerous goals.
On 29 July 1998, while climbing with Pascale Bessière - Eric Escoffier lost his life in Pakistan, on the summit ridge of Broad Peak, at around 7800m. Eric would have celebrated his 38th birthday on 9 August 1998.
